Candi Prambanan, Yogyakarta

Our 2015 year-end holiday, we managed to travel to the most beautiful temple in central Jawa, Candi Prambanan or Candi Rara Jonggrang (Candi means temple in English) and Borobudur in Jogyakarta. It is about 15 minutes' drive from Adisucipto International Airport to Prambanan.

Prambanan is a Hindu temple constructed in the 9th century. The architecture reminiscent of Angkor Wat.

This year (2015) is toughest year for all of us in Malaysia, as the Ringgit has depreciated so much ~ 35% to USD. I am so grateful that we still able to glue to our travel plan, and spend the little money and time to travel inside Asian, and had been to the sacred site, Angkor Wat and Borobudur.

We went to Prambanan on Sunday, 2 hours drive from Borobudur (include traffic jam).
The time that we arrived, around noon, the place is crowded with local peoples.

Notes to Travelers

i) We managed to get entrance ticket via travel agency through the help from the driver. Thus, we got 10% discount on the adult ticket.

A place must visit before you die ~ Borobudur

Across the three provinces of Java, there are hundred of temples showing that once powerful and prosperous kingdoms existed in Asia, just like the Angkor Wat, Cambodia.

Borobudur is built in the highlands and surrounded by mountains and hills. This Buddhist temple have been built between end of 7th century. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central Java. The monument consists of nine stacked platforms, six in square and three circular platforms, topped by a central dome.

Skybridge and Pinnacle of Petronas Twin Towers

Last Sunday, my family and I had a chance to visit the KL Twin Towers (thanks to company sponsored the entrance fees). I worked in Tower 2 ~ Level 68 and 71 for the past 3 years before our office moved out last year. The Skybridge, as a connecting structure between the towers. However, even we are part of the occupants, we are not allowed to use the skybridge (Level 41) to go from one tower to another tower, only Petronas employees are allowed to use the 'shortcut'.

The skybridge is double-decker, 58.4 metre in length, 750 tonnes and 170 metres above street level. The deck at Level 42 is opened for visitors.

The view of Kuala Lumpur from Level 42 (170 metres above street level)

Highlight of the day

Observation Deck at Level 86 (total is 88)

1933 Chen Shi Shu Yuan

Reprinted piece of a watercolour artwork from Kathleen Russell.
The artwork captured the scene of daily life of the locals in front of a Chinese Temple, Kuala Lumpur in 1933. I guess the temple is 陳氏書院 Chan Clanmen Study Hall / Chan Shi Shu Yuan , also known as Green Temple due to its green ceramic wall tiles. The Temple is the clan association for Chinese people surnames start with 陳 (Chan, Chen, Chin and Tan) from the bloodline of emperor of Shun.

Address : 172, Jalan Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

Loka Made of Malaysia

I discovered a new series of postcard available in Kinokuniya bookstore.
A beautiful illustration artwork of a Malaysian artist ~ FeiGiap from Loka Made.
At first, I was thought that was another kind of Shōjo Manga (少女漫画) . As shōjo literally means "girl" in Japanese, which mostly aimed at the teenagers.

Loka Made also offers DIY pop-up postcards

Singapore Merlion and Marina Bay Sand

I bought this 2 postcards during my tour to Singapore sometimes ago.
The postcard shown the scenic view of the Merlion , Fullerton Hotel and skyscrapers in the business centre is a popular tourist attraction in Singapore. Merlion , half-fish and half-lion, the iconic of Singapore. The half-fish represented Singapore's orginin was a fishing village called as Temasek (meaning sea town in old Javanese). While the half-lion represents the original name, Singapura, or lion city in Malay.

The Marina Bay Sand has the world largest rooftop infinity pool, gazing down on the city-skyline from level 57. However, the access to the Infinity Pool is open for its hotel guests only.
