Seattle's Pike Place Market (Then & Now)

The Market opened August 17, 1907, and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States.

Besides, I've asked postcrossers to share with me how they keep their postcards.

My postcards are 'growing' to thousand (?)..and wonder how others keepsake their collections.

How you store your postcards 

(replied by William) I store my postcards in an album in plastic sheets so I can see the front and the back. 

Seattle

What makes Seattle so special?


First of all, Seattle has always been an international type of joint. This vibrant port city has always been a trading hub for the Pacific North West of the United States. Seattle made its name as the last major port on the shipping route to Alaska in the last century and as a port for shipping lumber and manufactures across the Pacific to Asia. In fact, historically, prospectors had to prove they had 12 months of supplies before being allowed to go to Alaska. Accordingly they 'stocked up' in the Seattle markets before entering Alaska's inside passage. It also seems that many also visited Seattle's numerous red light establishments near the Pike markets before undertaking the cold and lonely journey north to the Artic circle.


Secondly, Seattle has had its fair share of local companies who have gone onto bigger and better things on the international stage. Of course, there's The Boeing Company, the inventor of the jumbo jet, and in more recent times, Internet giant, Microsoft and consumer global brands like Amazon and Starbucks.


Thirdly, it has been a centre of innovation and creativity. Seattle is big in 'tunes, toons and TV'.
In music terms, Seattle has produced many great rhythm and blues and rock legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles and Robert Cray. And more recently there's Pearl Jam and Nirvana boosting Seattle's proud bragging rights as the birthplace of grunge.

The Narrows Bridges

Amanda send me this postcard from Tacoma, WA, USA.

She wrote that the bridge just right by her house. The second bridge just added. Before, there was problems because the structure of the bridge was faulty and when it got windy, the bridge would swing side to side. It pretty crazy. Cars fell off and there was a dog left in an abandon car, stuck. But its fixed now and beautiful.

Mount St Helens

Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

From the north, the changing landscape of Mount St Helens is seen reflected in the waters of spirit lake.

Renees wrote on the postcard, "This mountain used to look like a regular mountain but in 1980 it had a huge eruption and had an earthquake that created this crater."

The U.S. Capitol Building

The cornerstone was laid in 1793. It was burned by the British in 1812.
The House and Senate Chambers, Statuary Hall, the Rotunda and the President's Room are most interesting.
