Another Moomin card, Tove 100

 I'm so happy to have another Moomin postcard in my collections. 

Paula told me that she store her postcards in a big metallic tea box. 

Before we left, Grandmother talked a lot about the arctic night we would fly through. ‘Isn’t it a mystical word, “arctic”? Pure and quite hard. And meridians. Isn’t that pretty? We’re going to fly along them, faster than the light can follow us… Time won’t be able to catch us.

What is your first thoughts of Moomin ? New Film : Moomins on the Riviera

Paula from Finland sent me Moomin, such a sweet card. 

The naive look of Moomin in 'Moomins on the Riviera' is melted my heart :)

If you or you already know beforehand that there are one similarity in Hello Kitty and Moomin ... 

if you can spot them :) 

I just found out today that the two characters does not have mouth because the creator want people to 'project their feelings onto the character'. 

Thus, what is your thought across in your mind when you first looked at the Moomin card ?

Moomins on the Riviera is a film that was on screen in Oct 2014 to commemorate 100th anniversary of Tove Jansson's (the author of Moomin books for children) birth . The film is created in a unique hand-drawn animation technique inspired by the original comic strips. So far, the film has been sold to Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, France, Switzerland, Japan

Petäjävesi Old Church

Petäjävesi Old Church in central Finland, was built of logs between 1763 and 1765. This Lutheran country church is a typical example of an architectural tradition that is unique to eastern Scandinavia. It combines the Renaissance conception of a centrally planned church with older forms deriving from Gothic groin vaults.

This is a detail of the decoration of this old wooden church. The church is still in use during summertime, many couples want to be married there.

She mentioned in the postcard that " The oldest parts of the church date back to the 13th century. Nowadays it's a Lutheran church but originally (before reformation in the 16th century) it was catholic. It's dedicated to Virgin Mary and St Henrik. the missionary martyr bishop (12th century). "

According to her, Kouvola is city in southeastern Finland and it's the 10th biggest city in Finland. Finland is country of thousands of lakes.

Verla at Jaala, Kouvola, Finland, is a well preserved 19th century mill village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

The historical paper mill turned museum of board mill technology. The historical machines were preserved in their places (except for several pieces brought from other buildings), so a guided tour to the mill follows the technological process from timber cutting and pulp production to board drying, sorting, and packing.

Midsummer - the summer solstice is the time when daytime is at its longest. In the Northern countries the sun doesn't go down but for a few short hours. And even then it doesn't get very dark but it is more of a twilight. In northern parts of Finland the sun doesn't fully disappear at all. It only makes a dip into the horizon and then starts to rise again.

The summers, at Nordkapp (North Cape), Norway, the most northern point of Europe, has light for the entire 24 hours a day.

The three most-northern counties in Norway, from mid-May to the end of July, has sun light for the entire 24 hour time span.

The further north you go, the more prominent is the Midnight Sun.

The naturally illuminated nights enables you to do things you can’t do anywhere else in the world, such as play a round of golf at midnight or sit outside and read your newspaper.

Moomin is the famous cartoon character in Finland.
Moomin characters (or Moomintrolls)are portrayed in the fairy‐tale novels by Tove Jansson, beginning with Kometjakten (1946; A Comet in Moominland, 1968). The Moomins are a variety of imaginary creatures, half‐animals, half‐dwarfs or trolls, inhabiting the self‐contained world of the Moomin valley. They are clearly human beings in disguise and often have prototypes in real life. The core of the family consists of Moominmamma, Moominpappa, and their son Moomintroll, who can be viewed as the central character of the novels.
