Krasnodar Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The building of the Krasnodar Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a memorial to the civil architecture of the beginning of the 20th century. In previous times the house belonged to Ekaterinodar merchant Vasilii Kondratevich Rubezhanskii, the owner of the Bomond-Illuziya, one of the first cinemas in the Kuban capital.

Russian Federation Emblem

Coat of arms of the Russian Federation

The two main elements of Russian state symbols
(the two-headed eagle and the mounted figure slaying the dragon)
predate Peter the Great.

The current coat of arms was adopted officially on November 30, 1993.
The imperial crowns on each head stand for the unity and sovereignty of Russia
both as a whole and in its constituent republics and regions.
The orb and scepter grasped in the eagle's toes are traditional
heraldic symbols of sovereign power and authority.

Thanks to Tatiana from Kazan , Russia for this postcard.

Kizhi Wooden Church, Russia

Thank you to Vladko sending me this amazing postcard from Russia.
Not to forget also the Vladko's neat writing,
Gorgeous stamps and the lovely masking tape pasted.

Kizhi is an island on Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia, Russia.
There are dozens of historical wooden buildings build during the 1950s.
Kizhi Pogost is one of the most famous (out of 80+) historical wooden structures.

The Kizhi Pogost enclosure holds two wooden churches and an octagonal
bell tower built during the 18th-century.
The Church of the Transfiguration was intended for use only during the
summer as the church has no heating, and winter in Russia is terribly bitter.
It was not uncommon in Russia to have paired churches, for summer and winter.

Florentine mosaic

img-113172219-0001

Detail of Florentine mosaic The Senses of Touch and Smell.

The gem of the Catherine Palace.

Four of these contained compositions made in Florence in the 1750s from coloured stones using the Florentine mosaic technique. They were allegorical depictions of the senses designed by Giuseppe Dzokki: Sight, Taste, Hearing and (together) Touch and Smell.

The art of Florentine mosaic, an "intarsio" or inlay of hard stones called" Commesso", is unique in the world.

Russian tradition of mosaic had started in Ural Region in XVIII century. The first masters had used valuable but never blocked rock breeds (malachite, lazurite, Kushkuldin jasper). As a basic plate they'd used turner produced forms of cutter stone or plate. To decorate it's possible to use not only marble or jasper but also semiprecious stones of Ural such as charoite, agate, aventurine, amazonite, onyx, ophicalcite, rhodonite, serpentine, fluoride.
The art of Florentine mosaic is alive. Old traditions are developed by contemporary masters. Application of modern diamond tools and polishers makes possible to receive the quality of stone processing that was impossible before.

Saint Basil Cathedral on Red Square

img-614085350-0001

Red Square is a city square in Moscow. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter known as Kitai-gorod. As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and all of Russia.

The Church of Resurrection (The Saviour on the Split Blood)

This postcard is one of my wishlist. Thank you to Vika Kvasnik find it for me in one of our private swap.

This church is known to Petersburgers as the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood - or even just the Church on the Blood - as it marks the spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded in an assassination attempt on March 1, 1881.

Designed by Alfred Parland in the style of 16th and 17th-century Russian churches. One of the most impressive elements of the church is the extravagant shrine constructed on the spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded, which has maintained a special place within the church's interior.
