masterpiece of Alphonse Mucha

A postcard sends from Lenka of Czech Republic.

Bières de la Meuse (1897) ~ by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. 

The poster portrays a woman with a wreath of poppies, wheat and hops in her hair holding a pint of beer. She has Slav features and recalls the figure of Summer from Mucha's Seasons series of the previous year. There are two images at the bottom of the poster that are by another artist, an image of the goddess of the river Meuse and a bird’s eye view of the brewery.

And not to forget the beautiful stamp (Zodiac, Design 2, Ziegler 2010) that Lenka pasted on postcard. Another beautiful artwork piece called "Savonnerie De Bagnolet" , also by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939).

  The Zodiac image of Mucha was one of his most successful designs, undergoing no fewer than a dozen different uses over the years. In this variant, the zodiac and all the decorations around the perimeter are gone, having been replaced by an 1898 calendarium. 

Replacing the astrological symbols is the text for the soap company. 

Charles Bridge, Prague

Charles Bridge is a stone bridge that connects the Old Town and Lesser Town (Malá Strana), famous landmark of Prague. Both tram and car were allowed in the past but now it is a pedestrian zone for people. 

In all year long, you may find the artists, musicians and souvenir vendors at both side of the bridge. A great time of day to come to the bridge is at sunset when one can enjoy a breathtaking view of the fully lit Prague Castle against the evening sky.

go there at night or very early in the morning, if you want a peaceful solitude moment .

For more than 600 years, the roofs of Prague Castle have been overlooked by the towers of St Vitus Cathedral. The cathedral, whose original name is St Vitus, St Wenceslas and St Adalbert Cathedral, is the biggest and the most important church in the Czech Republic.
It’s the seat of the Archbishop of Prague and the place where saints, kings, princes and pmperors of Bohemia are buried. The coronations of the kings of Bohemia were held there until 1836. It’s one of the best examples of Gothic architecture.

Travel around the world #7 : Prag / Prague

Our next station to Travel Around the World is Prague.

I'm so much amaze by the Prague Astronomical clock / Prague Orloj.

The Orloj is composed of three components :
i) the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky ;
ii) a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures ;
iii) a calendar dial with medallions representing months.
